I've blogged in the past about the role angel investing has played in giving America its reputation as the land of opportunity. This Independence Day, as I plod my way through McCullough's John Adams, I'm reminded that there are and have been people negotiating things that are much more important than cap sheets and valuations.
However, I remain grateful to be involved in a space that has made the "American dream" possible for so many. Every job-and-healthcare-providing company in America was once a startup with an angel investor. Thanks to angel investors, daring entrepreneurs can quit their day jobs with confidence that they can find the financing they need to get started. Angel investing is so intertwined with American interests that some states creating legislation that rewards angel investing.
In short, I'm glad to be an American -- despite the obvious flaws we Americans often display -- and I feel fortunate to be involved in a profession that does so much to make America, and the world, a better place.
Happy Independence Day! Enjoy the fireworks!

Great thought for independence day.
I agree that angel investors play an important role in the entrepreneurial ecosystem we have in the U.S. (which has been reasonably difficult for other countries to replicate).
Disclaimer: I'm a little biased, being an angel investor myself. :)
